According to the All-Ukrainian nationally representative poll, conducted by Info Sapiens on 21-24 July, 2022, 62% of Ukrainians believe that the war with Russia will last another six months or more, while in mid-March, the majority believed that the war would last from a week to several months.
Despite the understanding that there will be no quick victory, 72% are confident in the victory of Ukraine, the same as at the beginning of the war.
Moreover, despite the fact that losses from the war are increasing (or vice versa because of this), Ukrainians are becoming more categorical about the concessions to Russia. 65% of the respondents are not ready to agree to the ban on Ukraine entering NATO as a condition for an immediate end to the war, while the share of such responses in May was only 54%. The share of those who are not ready to agree to the ban on Ukraine entering the EU, has also significantly increased: from 62% in May to 72% in July, apparently, including due to the fact that Ukraine received the status of a candidate for EU membership at the end of June.
The vast majority of the respondents support Ukraine entering the EU and NATO: 91% are fully or rather support entering the European Union, and 85% fully or rather support the country's accession to NATO.
Speaking about the prospects of Russia's annexation of Ukrainian territories, as a result of the terrorism of the Russian troops, as much as 1% of the population in Ukraine remained with a "fairly favorable" opinion of Russia, while before the full-scale war, 20% of the population had a favorable opinion. Moreover, all regions of Ukraine are unanimous in this assessment – the share of Ukrainians with a "fairly favorable" opinion does not exceed 4% by regions. For the East, this question turned out to be relatively the most sensitive one – 13% refused to answer it, probably due to fear of the invaders.
The level of reluctance to agree to territorial concessions to Russia also continues to gradually increase. In July, 89% of Ukrainians are not ready to agree to the official recognition of Crimea as part of Russia, while in March this figure was 75%. 91% are against recognizing the previously occupied areas of Donbas as part of Russia, while in March 79% were against it. 95% are not ready to give up the Ukrainian territories that Russia has occupied since February 24, this indicator has been stable since May.
The confidence of Ukrainians in the need for an armed resistance for the return of the territories of Ukraine occupied by 2022 is also increasing. 90% of the respondents strongly or somewhat agree that the Armed Forces of Ukraine should continue fighting until they have retaken all of the Donbas, and 84% of Ukrainians hold this opinion regarding Crimea.
Research information
The sample of the study consists of 1018 respondents. The survey was conducted by CATI (computer-assisted telephone interviews) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers. The sample is representative of the adult population (ages of 18 and older) of Ukraine. The structure of the sample corresponds to the structure of the population in terms of such characteristics as gender, age, size of the settlement and region according to the data of the State Statistics Service as of January 1, 2022. The survey was not conducted in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, as well as other territories of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia, where Ukrainian mobile operators do not provide mobile telephone services. Also, the survey does not cover Ukrainians who have gone abroad.
The maximum theoretical error does not exceed 3.1%. The survey was conducted on 21-24 July, 2022.
